Top Summer Skincare Tips

You’ve booked that dream holiday, and you’re all ready to spend a week soaking up the sun’s glorious rays, but we know that taking care of your skin can be something that’s easily put on the backburner when you go on holiday. We’ve put together some easy tips so that your skin will stay healthy and beautiful, even in the hottest weather.

1) Start with your lips. This delicate skin can sunburn easily, so use a good lipbalm with SPF, to keep your pout protected.

2) Don’t forget your scalp. Use a sunscreen spray along your path and your hairline, to prevent painful sunburn.

3) Apply sunscreen before you get dressed. Believe it or not, you can burn through your bikini, so apply oil- and fragrance-free sunscreen to your entire body before you cover up with clothes.

4) Use mineral makeup. Many powders come with a built-in SPF, which protects your face if you do feel you need to wear makeup. Keep your makeup light and oil-free, to prevent further damage to the skin.

5) Wear a hat. This may seem basic, but a hat can do wonders for protecting your skin against the harmful rays of the sun. Choose one with a wide brim, for maximum coverage.

3) Take a cool shower and use a scrub to remove dead skin. Exfoliating can help remvoe dry or dead skin (just don’t do it immediately after a bad sunburn!), while a cool shower helps to lower your body’s temperature during uncomfortably hot weather.

6) Eat your Antioxidants! Munch on snacks that are high in antioxidants, in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and sun damage. Berries, tea, dark chocolate, and even red wine, are good sources, so treat yourself this summer! Research also says that increasing your intake of vitamins C and E helps reduce the effects of sun on the skin, while drinking enough water is always a must.

7) Use an aloe vera gel. Soothe sunburned skin with a cooling, natural gel, or lather up with yoghurt after a day in the sun, and then shower it off.

How to Dress for Your Body Shape

Summer is in full swing, so there’s no time like the present to get started on the body you’ve been dreaming of. Our top tip for this season is to try out the revolutionary Venus Legacy treatment – and you’re in lucky, because Balance is now one of only two locations in Ireland that can perform this procedure! It’s non-invasive, there’s no downtime, and each session is quick, easy, and pain-free. This body-shaping solution helps to tighten sagging skin on the face or body; reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; smooth cellulite; contour your curves; and improve circulation.

Of course, once you’ve got your body looking gorgeous, you’ll need some ideas on how to dress to impress, right? Fashion Boss Lorna Duffy shared some clever tips with us at our brilliant Balance Motivates event last week. Women come in all shapes and sizes, and they key is to use fashion to accentuate your best features.

Hourglass Shape:

You’re curvy with a tiny waist, so embrace those curves! Play up your petite waist with a belted jumper, or go bold and try Kim Kardashian’s crop top and pencil skirt uniform. V-neck wrap dresses are ultra-flattering, while wide-leg trousers will make you appear taller.

Apple Shape:

You have a slim lower body with some weight around the middle, so highlight your shoulders and legs. Swing coats are incredibly flattering for your body shape, and the high-waisted circle skirt accentuates your waist. A shift dress that shows off your legs is a great choice, and low-waist, straight-leg pants avoid a stomach bulge.

Banana Shape:

Your hips and waist are the same size, so your goal is to highlight the thinnest part of your waist, in order to make your hips and bust appear larger. A slightly cropped jacket that cinches at the waist, or a ruffled shirt are flattering, and make your top half look larger. A side-cut out dress can make your appear curvier, while tapered trousers create the illusion of larger hips.

Pear Shape:

Your hips are your widest part, meaning you want to balance your figure by accentuating your top half. A structured jacket with detailing or prints can direct attention to your top half, and an off-the-shoulder dress takes the attention away from your lower body. A-line skirts also draws the eye towards to the smallest part of your waist, and boot-cut trousers balance with your hips to make them seem perfectly proportioned.
